Diagnostic Tests

Some of the tests I may recommend in certain circumstances are available through your GP or consultant. Where you have a specific health issue or we want a test not available through your doctor I often use clinical tests from licensed, accredited laboratories abroad. Laboratories I use frequently are Cyrex, Laboratoire Reunis, Genova Diagnostics, Doctors Data and Mineral Check though I do use other laboratories as well.

Here are a few of the tests I commonly use in my practice specialising in digestive wellness, skin and hair health. Hundreds more are available. If there is a test you are interested in having, please feel free to give me a call and ask.

Cyrex Laboratories and Laboratoire Reunis

  • Cyrex Labs has an excellent test for gluten sensitivity. This includes both IgA and IgA antibodies to many gluten fractions not commonly tested in Irish hospital tests. This test is carried out on a serum (centrifuged blood) sample. It is suitable for patients who are still eating gluten rather then people who are long term gluten-free. Wheat/gluten proteome reactivity and gluten-associated cross reactive foods are my two most commonly requested Cyrex arrays.
  • Cyrex Labs also carries out a wide range of food intolerance or food sensitivity tests, autoimmune marker and intestinal and blood brain barrier permeability arrays. These are also carried out via centrifuged blood samples.
  • Laboratoire Reunis can assess your genetic predisposition to coeliac disease. A simple saliva test checks for the 2 genes (HLADQ2 and HLADQ8) commonly present in people with coeliac disease or latent coeliac disease. If you have either of these genes, eating gluten grains is not advisable.

Doctors Data and Genova Diagnostics

  • Comprehensive digestive stool analysis/comprehensive parasitology. These stool tests assess digestive function and measure of probiotic (“good”) and pathogenic (“bad”) bacteria in your small intestine. They also look for parasites. The balance of micro organisms in your body affects areas as different as digestive, skin and hair health, allergy and autoimmunity.
  • Loading iodine/halides tests. These are urine tests. They are used to rule out iodine deficiency and the fluoride/bromide toxicity which causes functional deficiency. Functional iodine deficiency is where toxic elements block correct iodine metabolism in your body. Correct iodine metabolism is needed to prevent PMS, help keep breast and prostate tissue normal, avoid other hormone-driven cancers, for thyroid function and to prevent systemic infections in your body. If you have elevated body burdens of fluoride or bromide, even adequate levels of iodine in your diet will not be able to carry out their proper function.

If you need a test that requires a blood or serum sample, I can help you organise this easily and conveniently. For simple blood draws you can even have an expert phlebotomise visit you in the comfort of your own home (Dublin area).

Unfortunately due to constant currency fluctuations I am unable to include prices for these tests. Please feel free to give me a call if you are interested in any particular test.
